Windows Marketplace only for Windows Mobile 6.5 and up

Microsoft is preparing to launch Windows Marketplace for mobile phones. The Marketplace is Microsoft's answer to the iPhone App Store. It will allow Windows Mobile users to find purchase, and download mobile applications directly from their phones. But as we discovered this week, the service will only be available to users with Windows Mobile 6.5 phones. Microsoft has no plans to release a version of Windows Mobile 6.0, 6.1, or older devices despite the fact that millions of people already have mobile devices with older versions of Microsoft's mobile operating system.

Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK released, emulators ready for download

Want to play with Windows Mobile 6.5 before it's available on phones and don't feel like installing one of the hacked versions floating around the shadowy corners if the internet? No problem. Microsoft launched the Software Development Kit for Windows Mobile 6.5 today, and as part of that launch, the company released an emulator that essentially lets you run the mobile operating system in a virtual environment on a Windows PC.

Mobile phone giant Nokia and Yahoo! announced today that they will be expanding their partnership to include Yahoo! branded internet services including Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger on Nokia mobile devices.
The services will be made available on Nokia phones running Nokia’s Series 40 platform. Series 40 is the software system that powers many of Nokia’s mobile devices. With Series 40, users are able to access a broad range of applications and features, including messaging, browsing, music and video standards as well as personal information management.
Yahoo! internet services will initially be available on the new Nokia 6300 (pictured), the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and the Nokia 5200. These services and the ability to synchronize Yahoo! contacts, tasks and calendar on the PC and phone will eventually be added to an even wider range of Nokia’s Series 40 devices.
The Nokia and Yahoo! partnership dates back to April 2005 where they established Yahoo! Search for users on their mobile devices. Yahoo! launched its first mobile service back in 1999 and continues to forge new offerings for mobile consumers.

The phone also features Nokia's mini-map full-fledged web browser. Productivity applications on the phone include Quickoffice, featuring Quickword, Quicksheet and Quickpoint.
